The Magic Theatre

We believe that good art should hit you directly without mediation, without any explanation. Good art should be accessible, not for everyone but to anyone. It should broach the big subjects and issues of our time, but nonetheless, the magic theatre should be entertaining and funny, something that the audience likes to watch and engage with, something to make their lives richer, something that does not feel like a bloody waste of time. In practical terms this means re-magifying the theatrical space; i.e. to free theatre from the baggage of centuries and conventions, its form, its audience involvement and its material. Theatre should always make use of all the audiences’ senses and of all forms of artistic expression. Theatre does not need to limit itself to stages and theatre houses, it can take place anywhere. Magic theatre can be epic on a vary grand scale, for instance in large immersive productions that bombard all your senses and suck you in, or it can be just the opposite, it can be tiny in scale, like a one-on-one performance, absolutely intimate. It should be accessible to anyone, regardless of their background, habitus, social standing or wallet. Magic theatre is not the future of theatre, but one future of theatre.
